Just a tip, when you’re doing something like notching around the roof rafters, start with the board too long, and if you notch too deep, you can trim it just right off the top, and when that test fit is just right, then mark the opposite end for the square cut will be just right. Carry on cabin girl;)

I built an "imperfect"' cabin in Idaho a long time ago (20+ years). Didn't know what I was doing. Definitely could have been better. But, its still standing, and has provided decades of enjoyment. So, board-and-batten discussion... it'll be fine. Love seeing hard work come to fruition.

Michelle, As always I appreciate your “Full speed ahead...I'll figure it out” approach! Also, loved the attitude quote. I think you could make you scaffold setup safer by adding planks to support the ends and middle running up from the deck, These would reduce some of the “shear” force on the nails you are depending on to hold you up.
